Robert and I met while he was working for Clatsop County at the Transition Center, and I was a teller at the Bank of Astoria. We had a few awkward conversations at the drive through, when he would come to deposit his paycheck. He still jokes about it to this day saying "I know she really loves me, because she's seen my bank account." He would also go so far out of his way to see me, that he would go buy all the bank girls milk shakes or ice cream. He didn't want to appear too forward, you see. He would bring them to the bank, and I would always be on my break, so I never saw him. I could never put a face with the name until he said one day, "I'm the guy that always brings the milkshakes." I know people always say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. I think it's safe to say the same for my heart.
He finally worked up the courage to ask me out, and the rest is history. We were married July 13, 2008. Robert has a son from a previous relationship, Anthony who is 13. Together we have Tyler 3, and Christopher 8 months. Combined, we are the Wirts W-I-R-T's!
This blog was created shortly after our youngest son Christopher was admitted to ICU only 25 hours after his birth on February 18, 2010. We have had a long road since we learnedon that day, that Christopher was born with a complex series of heart defects, known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Essentially, this means all the structures on the left side of Chris' little heart are underdeveloped to the point that they do not function.
To date Christopher has undergone 4 surgeries, and spent over 2 1/2 months in the hospital. He has continued to shock and humble me with his strength and resilience. Chris has at least one more heart surgery in his future, but we are so greatful for these lifesaving procedures.
In the meantime, Chris is a very chatty and a very rambunctious little guy. He is always talking about something, and always on the move. He has finally cut his second tooth within the last couple of days. He is toying with the idea of crawling but loves to be held or jumping in his jump-up. He is starting to be kind of bashful around new people, though he doesn't cry much, he will hide his face.
Ty is loving being a big brother, and is usually willing and ready to help with anything when it comes to his little brother, even poopy diapers. He is a great help to me, and I am thankful for the extra set of hands, even if they're small. He is starting to carry on very involved conversations and has a great vocabulary, which sometimes gets him into trouble.
Tony is doing well in school, and I think he is enjoying being the top dog at school. He seems to like most of his classes and has really started to show an interest in some subjects. Although his favorite subjects remain fishing, and skateboarding. Unlike many teenagers, he doesn't complain when the sunny weather disappears. He is a true coastal boy and loves a good storm.
Dad is still volunteering for the PD, and even had some company when his cousin Nancy road along on Halloween night. He is a very hard worker, but also loves to play. All his boys love to wrestle with him, which has only resulted in one gray hair on Mom's head so far. This number is expected to rise in subsequent years.
Sadly, I do not have a current picture with all of us together, but I will be diligently working on getting one. Huge hugs,
The Wirts
