Scriptures and Quotes

These are some of my favorite scriptures, quotes, and other literature.  Most of these I've come across over the course of my life, but likewise most of them have been brought to life with new meaning through this past year.  I have many more, but this is all I have time for at the moment.

Quotes

God does not begin by asking us about our ability, but only about our availability, and if we then prove our dependability, he will increase our capability.
~Elder Neal A. Maxwell

~ James Baldwin

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

Poems

The Builder

One day as I passed through a lonely town
I saw some men tearing a building down
With a ho heave ho and a husky yell,
They swung a beam and a sidewall fell.

I asked the foreman, "are these men skilled?
The kind you'd hir if you had to build?"
"Oh no," he chuckled, "no indeed,
The common laborer is all I need."
"Why I can destroy in a day or two,
What has taken a builder weeks to do."

I said to myself as I went on my way,
"Which of these rolls have I tried to play?
Am I a builder that works with care?
Strengthening lives by rule and square?
Or am I a wrecker, that walks around,
Content with the labor of tearing down."
The Weaver

My life is but a weaving,
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors,
He worketh steadily.

Oftimes He weaveth sorrow,
And I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper,
And I, the underside.

The dark threads are as needful,
In the weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver,
In the pattern He has planned.

Not 'til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas,
and explain the reasons why.
